Rare 2004 TV Interview: Israeli Actor Lior Ashkenazi Admits to a Role in War Crimes During the First Intifada

First time with English translation: In a 2004 interview, actor Lior Ashkenazi describes war crimes committed during his service, including his role in the murder of a handcuffed Palestinian hostage.

“Besides cutting off beards, everything happened there... Beating, shooting... I KNOW FOR CERTAIN THAT I WAS INDIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KILLING OF A WANTED MAN WHO WAS HANDCUFFED”

April 2, 2004: Prominent Israeli actor Lior Ashkenazi talks on live TV about the war crimes he and his fellow soldiers committed during the First Intifada, and even confesses to taking part in the murder of a handcuffed Palestinian hostage.

When asked by the show’s host, iconic Israeli singer Yehoram Gaon, whether he still has nightmares, Ashkenazi responds, “No, it’s gone away”.

This was aired on state-owned Channel 1 (now Kan 11). When Ashkenazi was interviewed last year for a Kan 11 documentary series about the First Intifada and was asked about this 2004 interview, he refused to repeat his words, citing his fear of being prosecuted in The Hague.
